My Goal

As director & founder of this orchestra my goal is to create an organization that will provide continual, ongoing, inspiring performances throughout the year. Performing concerts on a dependable schedule provides the visibility of the transgender, LGBTQ+, minority community of musicians that makes a constant and consistent reminder to all members of society of our existence and our ability to contribute beauty, equity, education and the concept of peaceful coexistence. We are not a holiday to be celebrated once a year and then forgotten. We need to be celebrated, vetted and supported through thick and thin, through hard times and good. We aim to be a source of support for our community.

We can and will use music to change attitudes.

We will reverse political polarization by entertaining and inspiring with positive role models.

Thanks for supporting the Non-Conformists.

NCO Around Town

Our work reaches families with children, as in our

Concerts, both indoor & outdoor such as the outdoor Watertown and Needham concerts in 2024.

Our concerts and demonstrations serve to entertain and educate seniors especially, but not exclusively LGBTQIA+ seniors including violin-piano recital concerts at the PRYDE Community Center & the PRIDE Concert Series 2025: June 11 2025; a quartet of piano, violin, viola and tenor & 7/16/25 NCO Quartet concert, events (meet & greet)

We produce collaborations with other organizations such as November 2 2025 architectural firm, DiMela Shaffer sponsored tours to show people in the design business what housing for LGBTQ+ Seniors can be and who booked our NCO trombone trio to entertain guests.

In 2025 & 2026 NCO provided contributed services by our musical ensembles in support of NAGLY (North Shore Alliance of LGBTQ Youth) Red Party fund raiser event, and paid bookings of our beloved Dr. Viola Voila

We perform and educate college students and their families, associates and friends. In 2024 the student led Trans and Gender Expansive Art Showcase at LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center at BU April 9 2024 booked the founding director, Bunny Shilakowsky to perform a queer artist’s viewpoint educational recital with NCO pianist Julian Drummond.

We also support other small arts organizations by showing up and encouraging collaborations such as the theater groups Sleeping Weasels and Theater Offensive.

Our founding director, Bunny Shilakowsky recently co-hosted a Meet & Greet for PRYDE residents with Susan Chinsen, Associate Director Programming & Engagement at ArtsEmerson &

Founding Director the Boston Asian American Film Festival presenting Mama Alto, Australian transgender cabaret singer and actress at the Weinberg Auditorium at the PRYDE.

Our next concert is October 17 2026 featuring the NCO Quintet, performing a family friendly concert free to the public which we are co-sponsoring with a matching grant from MPTF (Music Performance Trust Fund) here at the PRYDE Community Center.
